2026 Legislative Year

These bills by Senator Favola and Delegate Bennett-Parker will protect survivors by giving judges, attorneys, and law enforcement the tools needed to enforce current laws and ensure the safe and lawful transfer of deadly firearms. 

This bill by Senator Salim would prohibit certain state and federal law enforcement officers from wearing facial coverings while engaged in the performance of their official duties, with exceptions for health and safety reasons.

This bill would prohibit civil arrests of anybody attending a required court hearing and would prevent certain members of law enforcement from entering a courthouse unless they present a judicial warrant.

This bill by Delegate Hope would ensure that restorative justice communications are not admissible or subject to discovery and that disclosure of such communications shall not be compelled in any judicial or administrative proceeding, arbitration, or mediation.

HB 885 will create an automated court date notification system, a proven, low-cost way to increase appearance rates and prevent unnecessary harm and re-traumatization for survivors.

This bill by Senator Jones would expand the eligibility requirements for juvenile parole to include (i) any person sentenced to a term of life imprisonment for a single felony offense or multiple felony offenses committed while that person was 20 years of age or younger and who has served at least 20 years of such sentence and (ii) any person who has active sentences that total more than 20 years for a single felony offense or multiple felony offenses committed while that person was 20 years of age or younger and who has served at least 20 years of such sentence.
